Fox is exploring the dark lives of teenagers.
The network is adapting acclaimed Spanish series Polseres Vermelles (aka The Red Band Society), The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The Red Band Society explores with dark humor the daily lives of a group of teenager living in a hospital who become unlikely friends. The depth of the unexpected friendships allows them to survive the challenges of growing up under such intense circumstances.

Margaret Nagle (Boardwalk Empire) will pen the script and executive produce the Amblin Television and ABC Studios entry. Y Tu Mama Tambien's Sergio Aguero as well as Julio and Carlos Fernandez -- who executive produced the original series -- are also on board as EPs.
Red Band Society was created by Albert Espinosa and produced in 2011 for Catalonia's TV3 network. The series won the Ondas Award this year for best national television series, with star Alex Monner earning a Fotogramas de Plata award for best actor. The second season aired earlier this year. The teens featured in the series were battling cancer, anorexia, Asperger's syndrome and more.
Nagle, repped by UTA and Hirsch Wallerstein, has Reese Witherspoon feature The Good Lie -- about the Lost Boys and Girls of Sudan -- in the works for 2014.
The development sale comes years after Steven Spielberg and Friends alum Marta Kauffman announced that they'd bring the series to the U.S. via ABC and DreamWorks.
