Harry Connick Jr. to Mariah Carey: 'American Idol' is Heaven, Not Hell

American Idol may have been a highway to hell for departed judge Mariah Carey, but for Harry Connick, Jr., the experience has been simply heavenly.

The Fox show’s newest judge took to Twitter to gently scold his predecessor Carey, who complained in an interview on New York radio station Hot 97 that her time on the show was like “going to work every day in hell with Satan.” Presumably, the diva was referring to fellow former judge Nicki Minaj, with whom she sparred almost from the get-go.

Clearly, it's a different vibe on the season 13 set. As Connick Tweeted, “@MariahCarey – Must’ve been hard to judge in hell. Idol XIII: Welcome to heaven!”

Connick was careful not to totally slam the iconic singer, however. “I LOVE @MariahCarey!!! no hate for that sweet lady - i just feel bad that she didn't have what we have - the best @AmericanIdol ever!” he wrote.

Idol is scheduled to premiere on Jan. 15. Today, the show revealed images from a new ad campaign focusing on real contestants.
